What is Going The Distance?
The inspiration behind Going the Distance is to highlight common life experiences for others to learn from or relate to. There are three central themes to Going the Distance: Challenge Yourself, Overcome Failure, and Always Improve. I have pursued all three and continue to strive to reach them. They are all part of our journeys and are essential in order for us to grow. I have summarized below what these phrases mean to me and how they will be carried throughout Going The Distance. I encourage everyone to reflect on their own experiences and if you feel inclined to share with me, I would love to hear!
Challenge Yourself
I don’t believe an individual is living up to their full potential if they aren’t being challenged. Being challenged can be uncomfortable, shaking up our routine and requiring us to learn. As a result, challenging ourselves causes us to grow and instills pride in the what we have accomplished. It is each of our responsibilities to introduce ourselves to challenge while holding ourselves accountable through it, with the goal of improving our lives.
Overcome Failure
Failure is part of life. Unfortunately, failure is outshined by our successes despite being the reason why we succeeded in the first place. I want to change this, starting by sharing my own failures throughout my journey to date. Instead of hiding our failures, I want to discuss them to determine the root cause and expedite the process towards improvement and success.
Always Improve
While this may be the result of challenging yourself and overcoming failure, I believe it’s an important mentality to foster. No matter how good we are at something, there is room for improvement. Improvement can be demonstrated in many ways, but it is driven by consistency and determination. The moment we stop trying to improve is the moment we give up on our potential.
